Nationwide, the average voter turnout for a primary election is less than 20% of the registered voter population.
The last time we had a Federal Primary election in Broome County, in 2012, only 3,423 voters visited the polls.
That is a turnout of 8%. We can and must do better.
This is the first of three elections this year.
On Tuesday, Republican Representative Richard Hanna is being challenged by Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney for the right to represent our district in Congress. (Only registered Republicans are eligible to vote in this primary election).
On September 9th, Local and State races will have their primary elections.
Then on November 4th, 2014, we choose our leaders for the next term of office.
That process begins Tuesday.
Please, show up to vote.
